How many times have you gone to your stylist or barber and walked away less than happy? Chances are like most guys you either didn’t know what you wanted or didn’t know what to say to your stylist. Well here at Hair Mechanix want to help you get the perfect haircut for your head.

>We’ve talked about the hottest hair trends,  beards and face shape, beard styles, and tips to work with thinning hair but still, some guys just don’t know how to get the cut or style they want. We want to make sure you get exactly what you envisioned when you come to us. Which is why we wanted to give some tips and tricks to making sure your stylist gives you the cut you want.

What to Say to Your Stylist When Getting a Haircut

Give Them Overview:

Tell your stylist what you’re looking for. Do you want a military cut, a fade, a comb over fade, a trim, a crew cut? If you have a specific style in mind, tell them what it is. One thing that can make your next cut easy, bringing photos or references of what you want. We are more than willing to help you get the perfect cut you want, and a photo won’t hurt.

Be Specific:

Don’t say things like “I’ll take a little off the top” or “Long on top with short sides”. This is literally every haircut out there. Tell your barber or stylist how much you want off “I’ll take 1 inch off the top” and other specific directions will help you be satisfied with your hair after we’re done with you. If you don’t know what you want, SAY SO! We’ll take a little bit off at a time and you can see if you like it. You can always get more taken off.

The Long Game:

If you have a long-term plan for your hair, tell your stylist. If you’re trying to grow it out, keep it healthy, or trying to transition to a different style, clue us in. We’d give you a different depending on what the long term goals are.

These are just a few basic tips you can use when visiting your stylist. We’ll be back with more tips and tricks next month, so stay tuned!
